Ben started at QB for 3 years at Sackville High School from 2007 – 2009 winning NS Rookie of the year, Offensive MVP, and League MVP. He received scholarship offers from nearly all Canadian Universities as well as multiple US colleges. In 2009 Ben was the only player from Atlantic Canada invited to participate in the Team Canada Evaluation Camp in Montreal.

In 2010 Ben committed to the University of Western Ontario Mustangs. After red shirting his freshman year he went on to start multiple games in 2nd year. At this time Western was ranked #1 in the CIS standings. In 2011 Ben was selected as the starting QB for Team World vs. USA (International Bowl) in Austin, Texas. This game featured multiple future and current NFL players.

In 2012 Ben transferred to Saint Mary’s University and was selected to the 2013 CIS East West Bowl as a QB for Team East. Ben was also selected as part of the Canadian QB Initiative with the CFL to participate in training camp with the Winnipeg BlueBombers. Ben went on to play 2 seasons with the SMU Huskies graduating in 2015 with a Commerce degree.
